Internationally aclaimed Filipino director Eduardo Roy, Jr. passes away

Internationally acclaimed Filipino director Eduardo Roy, Jr. has passed away on February 21, 2022.

A statement from the family of the late director was shared on Facebook by Direk Edong's frequent collaborator and movie producer Ferdy Lapuz.

The statement read, "It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Eduardo "Edong" Roy Jr. on February 21, 2022. He died of massive pulmonary embolism due to hospital acquired pneumonia. He had been diagnosed late last year with Burkitt's Lymphoma Stage IV."

"Edong was a beloved son, brother, and friend who's also known as the writer and director of award winning films such as Bahay Bata (2011), Quick Change (2013), Pamilya Ordinaryo (2016), Lola Igna (2019), Fuccbois (2019)."

The wake for Direk Edong will be at Arlington Memorial Chapels in Quezon City from February 24 to 26.

On Twitter, Pepito Manaloto: Ang Unang Kuwento actor and Bubble Gang comedian Kokoy de Santos tweeted a broken heart emoji following the sad news. He was part of Direk Edong's Cinemalaya 2019 movie Fuccbois.

Direk Edong won the Best Director award at Hanoi International Film Festival for Pamilya Ordinaryo. He was also a two-time Best Director Awardee of the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival for Pamilya Ordinaryo and Fuccbois.
